Elamipretide, also designated SS-31, is a synthetic tetrapeptide built on an alternating aromatic- cationic motif. Its sequence is D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH2, in which Dmt is the non-proteinogenic residue 2′,6′-dimethyltyrosine and the C-terminus is amidated. The D-arginine residue and the C-terminal amide are structural features of the Szeto-Schiller peptide series to which it belongs.
The characterised molecular partner of elamipretide is cardiolipin, an anionic diphosphatidylglycerol lipid of the inner mitochondrial membrane. Association is measured in vitro in defined liposome and isolated-membrane systems by surface plasmon resonance, isothermal titration calorimetry and fluorescence anisotropy. The alternating aromatic-cationic motif governs partitioning into anionic lipid bilayers, which is quantified as a partition coefficient under fixed buffer and lipid- composition conditions. Reported measurements stop at the peptide-lipid binding interaction.

Primary literature on the synthesis, structure-activity chemistry and cardiolipin-binding characterisation of the Szeto-Schiller aromatic-cationic tetrapeptide series is indexed in PubMed and in peptide chemistry and bioenergetics journals. Search results and cited literature do not establish the performance of a commercial lot or a use recommendation.
It is supplied for laboratory research and analytical work only and is not intended for human or veterinary use.
Each vial is traceable by lot number to a certificate of analysis reporting HPLC purity of ≥99% together with the chromatographic conditions used to obtain it.
Identity is confirmed by mass spectrometry against the expected monoisotopic and average masses for C32H49N9O5, with retention-time comparison to a qualified reference chromatogram.
Research use only. Not for human or veterinary use. Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
